AJ is one of those players who could be classified as “un-guard-able.” He stayed aggressive on both sides of the court for the entire contest. There was a sequence in the game where AJ scored four straight baskets as he attacked the paint. In isolated moments on the wing, AJ easily beat his opponent to the rim. On multiple occasions, he scored despite being fouled. This led to him having three-point play opportunities from the foul-line. He converted each attempt he had. This showed his skills as an excellent free-throw shooter. He was great at creating the space he needed to knock down threes. Defensively, this young man was a menace towards the opposing team. AJ was great at applying tough on-ball pressure and causing turnovers. He also excelled at playing the passing lanes. AJ finished the game with three steals. He was great at using his size and strength to clear out space and make baskets. Sven had so much of a size advantage, he scored despite being contacted by defenders. He calmly stepped to the foul-line and converted most of his shots. Sven dominated the glass on both ends of the basketball court. He also scored a couple of baskets in transition when the team had fast-break opportunities. Defensively, Sven blocked multiple shots and protected the paint. When there was an opportunity to knock down threes, Jamelle did not hesitate. He showed off his skills as a play-maker on numerous occasions. The majority of his assists led to easy scores for his teammates. Some were to players cutting down the lane, some along the perimeter. Jamelle was always in control of the offense. He showed great vocal leadership by staying in tune with his Seven10 teammates. I was impressed with his ability to rebound the basketball. I cannot count the amount of times I watched Jamelle attack the glass and come away with boards. His rebounds led to second chance scoring opportunities for his team. Jamelle is a great leader who has a strong chance of becoming even greater in the future.

#41 Myles Parker: West Irving Gold 13u- Small Forward

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched Myles play basketball. This young man was a terror both in the paint and on the glass. He easily dominated his opponents inside by scoring right over the top of them. Myles was great at using his size and craftiness to clear out space and make baskets. Where Myles really impressed me was how he handled the basketball. There was a sequence in the game where Myles grabbed a defensive rebound, brought the ball up court, hit the defender with a nice spin-move and nearly made the lay-up. He got a loud reaction out of me when he made his move. I really didn’t expect it. He also scored a couple of baskets in transition when the team had fast-break opportunities. What he needs to work on is his jump-shooting. Myles shot a lot of jumpers that were off the mark. If he can improve this aspect of his game, Myles could be a dangerous player to deal with. Keep working Myles!!

Others came from cleaning up the missed shots by his teammates. He showed the ability to beat defenders off the dribble and finish strong at the rim on numerous occasions. Defensively, he was all over the court. He guarded players both in the interior and on the perimeter. Alessandro is a tough minded combo guard who showed the ability to score. He displayed feistiness on the basketball court. Alessandro played with no fear, despite being one of the smallest players on the court. Alessandro handles the ball, drives by defenders, knocks down threes and scores in the paint. This little guy had an impressive package of skills within the Sharks Basketball 14u offense. Whenever he drove into the painted area, Alessandro's shot of choice was the floater. He scored it over taller defenders who attempted to block it away. In two halves of play, I watched him nail three shots from beyond the arc. On defense, he was a pest! His quick hands and good movement allowed him to generate multiple steals from the opposition. I really enjoyed watching him play. I have always had a soft spot for the little guy. His aggression on offense was constant throughout the game. One of his biggest strengths was his leadership. Joaquin always communicated with his teammates on both ends of the court. Calling out plays, switches on defense and overall encouraging words were a major part of his game. He’s a great " floor leader" who will continue to improve his overall basketball skills.

One of those finishes was a dunk. Peyton also had a highlight moment in the game. He knocked down a big-time three-pointer at the halftime buzzer. He excelled at setting screens, drawing fouls and taking advantage of smaller defenders in the paint. On defense, he’s an excellent shot-blocker. This allowed him to become a play-maker by either scoring or kicking out assists to his teammates. In one-on-one situations, BJ maximized his ability to create the space he needed to effectively get his shot off. Whenever the opportunity came to nail a three-pointer, BJ showed no hesitation. He finished the game with four big-time conversions from behind the arc. In my opinion, this young man was the most skilled offensive player on the basketball court. When No Mercy had chances to score on fast-breaks, Nate always finished strong. Defense is an area where he could work on.   Paxon is an excellent two-way player. He has great instincts on defense. It was shocking to see a player at his age being so tuned in defensively. Paxon finished the game with four steals. Some of those forced turnovers led to transition scores for himself or his teammates. He’s a good ball handler who had no problems getting by opposing defenders and making plays. The majority of his scores came off drives to the basket. Occasionally, he showed the ability to knock down perimeter jump-shots. Paxon is a tough guard who showed no fear attacking the basket, grabbing rebounds or going after loose balls. He plays hard on both ends of the court. If he continues to build his game offensively, Paxon could become a great all around player in the coming years. Keep working Paxon!!
